There’s no better way to spend time with you friends and family in summer than splashing around in your very own above ground swimming pool. Adding a pool to your yard can be a great investment but before you begin investigating which pool is right for you, there are a few things you need to know in order to select the right one for your family. There are 4 main types of pools – Steel, Resin, Hybrid, and Aluminum– all of which have different price points and features to consider. Let’s review them each below to see which may work best for your family.
STEEL
Steel pools are the most popular above ground pool and have been on the market since the 1940s. They are the most cost effective and provide the most structural integrity. During the manufacturing process the walls receive a hot-dipped galvanized coat to help resist rust and are deeply corrugated for strength and stability. Being that stainless steel is resistant to corrosion and inhibits bacterial growth, a benefit of steel pools is a long life span and that they are easy to clean and maintain for years to come.
RESIN
Resin pools are more costly than steel pools. They feature a structural frame made entirely from plastic resin (excluding the pool wall). There are a few benefits resin pools have over steel and aluminum pools. First, resin stays cooler to the touch in hotter temperatures. They cannot rust or corrode, and they also resist denting and warping. Resin frames are more versatile than steel so manufacturers can produce resin pools in a more modern, stylish designs that have incredible endurance.
HYBRID
Pool owners who want to combine the advantages of steel and resin pools will opt for a hybrid pool. Hybrid above ground pools combine the strength of a steel pool with the beauty of a resin pool, which provides durability and effectiveness over the years. The price point for hybrid pools is usually between steel and resin pools.
ALUMINUM
Aluminum pools have quite a few benefits that have helped them become a popular option over the past decade. Aluminum pools are constructed out of one continuous sheet of aluminum around a frame. Aluminum is much more flexible than steel and handles the movement of water very well. Aluminum is rust-resistant and, like steel, is often coated to prevent corrosion and oxidization, therefore it holds up well in inclement weather. Aluminum pools often fall between steel and resin when it comes to cost.
