The Raypak 156 is a professional-grade heater engineered specifically for smaller bodies of water where natural gas is not available. Whether you have an oversized hot tub, a "spool," or a small above-ground pool, this 150,000 BTU liquid propane unit provides rapid heating in a compact footprint that fits perfectly on any equipment pad.

The 014786 model features a reliable copper heat exchanger and Raypak’s signature digital control system, offering the same precision and durability found in their large-scale commercial heaters in a scaled-down, energy-efficient package.

Features

Precision Digital Control System: The microprocessor-controlled thermostat allows you to set your pool or spa temperature to within one degree. The intuitive digital display also provides constant self-diagnostics to let you know exactly how the heater is performing at all times.

Reliable Electronic Ignition: Features a robust "spark-to-pilot" ignition system that only lights when there is a call for heat. This eliminates the need for a standing pilot light, which is especially important for propane users looking to conserve fuel and prevent blow-outs in windy conditions.

Compact, Space-Saving Design: At only 12 inches wide, this is one of the narrowest gas heaters on the market. It is the perfect choice for tight installations, hidden equipment enclosures, or pads with very limited real estate.

PolyFlo Integrated Bypass: This patented design balances the water flow through the heat exchanger automatically. By maintaining the correct flow velocity, it prevents condensation and scale buildup, protecting the heater’s internal components from premature wear and corrosion.

ProTek Shield Technology: Includes a specialized, replaceable module designed to protect the heat exchanger from the damaging effects of galvanic corrosion (electrolysis), a critical feature for maintaining the lifespan of the heater in modern pool environments.

Non-Corrosive Cabinet Construction: The unit is housed in a polyester-coated, galvanized steel cabinet built to resist rust, UV fading, and harsh weather. Its wind-resistant design ensures the burner stays lit even in exposed or high-wind outdoor environments.

Standard 2" Water Connections: Features 2-inch CPVC unions for easy plumbing. The versatile design allows for water connections on either the right or left side, offering maximum flexibility during the installation process.

Bonus: The self-adjusting burner compensates for gas pressure fluctuations, ensuring that the heater will always burn clean and safe.

What will it cost to heat your pool?

Fuel and electricity prices vary a lot by region, so put in your own rate from your last bill and get a number that's actually yours.

1 · Your pool
Water now 68°F
Temperature you want 84°F

You need to raise the water 16 degrees

2 · Your heater & rate
Set at the factory — you buy the version matching the fuel you have.
Figured at 82% efficiency, the rating on Raypak Digital heaters.
Use the all-in rate from your gas bill, including delivery charges.

And what about month to month?

Warming the pool up is a one-off. Most of what you'll actually spend is holding that temperature — replacing the heat your pool loses to the air, day and night.

Average outdoor temperature 65°F

Day and night averaged together, for the month you're picturing.

Per month — no cover

$0.00

Keeping a solar cover on saves roughly $0.00 a month here — most of a heated pool's heat leaves by evaporation off an open surface, so a cover is the cheapest thing you can do to bring this figure down.

Warm-up figures are the physics with no heat loss. Your pool loses heat to evaporation, wind and cool air the whole time the heater runs, so those numbers are a floor, not a forecast. The real-world line adds a typical 25–50%.

Monthly figures are an estimate, and a rough one. They assume you hold your target around the clock for 30 days. Real heat loss swings a long way with wind, humidity and how much sun your pool gets — an exposed, windy yard can run well above these numbers and a sheltered sunny one below. Treat them as a ballpark for comparing options, not a quote.

Warm-up uses gallons × 8.34 × degrees of rise. Monthly uses an estimated heat loss across your pool's surface area against the temperature difference with the air, at 82% thermal efficiency for gas. Pool presets assume 4 ft of water in a 52" wall and 3.5 ft in a 48" wall. Estimates only. Not sure of your pool volume or which heater fits? Get in touch.
