The Raypak P-R266A-EP-X is a professional-grade heating system engineered for environments where natural gas is unavailable and water conditions are demanding. This 266,000 BTU liquid propane unit is upgraded with a high-performance Cupro-Nickel heat exchanger, providing the ultimate defense against the corrosive effects of salt-chlorine systems, high bather loads, and fluctuating water chemistry.

The 014951 model combines Raypak’s most durable internal components with an intelligent digital control system, making it the premier choice for luxury saltwater pools and high-use spas in off-grid or rural locations.

Features

Ultra-Durable Cupro-Nickel Heat Exchanger: Constructed from a premium copper-nickel alloy, this heat exchanger is significantly thicker and more resistant to erosion than standard copper. It is specifically designed to handle the aggressive nature of saltwater pools and high-velocity water flow, ensuring a much longer service life.

Microprocessor-Controlled Thermostat: The intuitive digital display allows you to set your pool and spa temperatures independently to within one degree. The system also features constant self-diagnostics to alert you to any operational issues, ensuring your heater runs at peak performance throughout the season.

Reliable Electronic Ignition: Features a robust "spark-to-pilot" ignition system that only lights when there is a call for heat. For propane users, this is a critical fuel-saving feature that eliminates the waste of a standing pilot light and prevents blow-outs in windy conditions.

PolyFlo Integrated Bypass: Raypak’s patented bypass design balances the water flow through the heat exchanger automatically. This maintains the correct internal temperature to prevent condensation and scale buildup, protecting the heater's internal components from premature wear.

ProTek Shield Technology: This innovative, replaceable module is designed to protect the heat exchanger from the damaging effects of galvanic corrosion (electrolysis), providing an essential second line of defense for the unit's most critical parts.

Non-Corrosive Cabinet Construction: The heater is housed in a polyester-coated, galvanized steel cabinet that is built to resist rust, UV fading, and harsh weather. Its wind-resistant design ensures the burner stays functional even in exposed or coastal outdoor environments.

Versatile Field Conversion: Designed for maximum installation flexibility, the unit features field-convertible headers that allow water connections to be easily swapped from the right side to the left side to match your existing plumbing.

Bonus: The self-adjusting burner compensates for gas pressure fluctuations, ensuring that the heater will always burn clean and safe.

What will it cost to heat your pool?

Fuel and electricity prices vary a lot by region, so put in your own rate from your last bill and get a number that's actually yours.

1 · Your pool
Water now 68°F
Temperature you want 84°F

You need to raise the water 16 degrees

2 · Your heater & rate
Set at the factory — you buy the version matching the fuel you have.
Figured at 82% efficiency, the rating on Raypak Digital heaters.
Use the all-in rate from your gas bill, including delivery charges.

And what about month to month?

Warming the pool up is a one-off. Most of what you'll actually spend is holding that temperature — replacing the heat your pool loses to the air, day and night.

Average outdoor temperature 65°F

Day and night averaged together, for the month you're picturing.

Per month — no cover

Keeping a solar cover on saves roughly $0.00 a month here — most of a heated pool's heat leaves by evaporation off an open surface, so a cover is the cheapest thing you can do to bring this figure down.

Warm-up figures are the physics with no heat loss. Your pool loses heat to evaporation, wind and cool air the whole time the heater runs, so those numbers are a floor, not a forecast. The real-world line adds a typical 25–50%.

Monthly figures are an estimate, and a rough one. They assume you hold your target around the clock for 30 days. Real heat loss swings a long way with wind, humidity and how much sun your pool gets — an exposed, windy yard can run well above these numbers and a sheltered sunny one below. Treat them as a ballpark for comparing options, not a quote.

Warm-up uses gallons × 8.34 × degrees of rise. Monthly uses an estimated heat loss across your pool's surface area against the temperature difference with the air, at 82% thermal efficiency for gas. Pool presets assume 4 ft of water in a 52" wall and 3.5 ft in a 48" wall. Estimates only. Not sure of your pool volume or which heater fits? Get in touch.
